If you haven’t seen this yet, it’s worth watching.
If you’ve already seen it, watch it again.
It’s an extremely powerful interview between the legendary Bill Russell and the man most responsible for the Celtics turnaround this season — Kevin Garnett.
Garnett receives more than his fair share of criticism.
He doesn’t produce in clutch situations.
He doesn’t post up enough.
He’s too unselfish.
But one thing you can never question is his commitment to the game and his effort night in and night out.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for KG.
I think he embodies everything that is right about the NBA.
He’s a selfless superstar.
Kevin suffered through losing season after losing season in Minnesota and he never complained.
He never requested a trade.
He simply put his head down and persevered.
So much of a player’s legacy is determined by chance and circumstance. But every once in awhile, the basketball gods get it right. They got it right by allowing KG to play for the Boston Celtics this season. This is where he should have been his entire career — competing for an NBA championship.
Garnett deserves a chance to cement his legacy in the NBA Finals.
And if there is one player in the league without a ring that deserves one, it’s him.
