If Greg Oden wasn’t eligible for next season’s award, OJ Mayo would be my pick for 2008-2009 Rookie of the Year.

Im curious to see how Oden does next season, but I would say Mayo or Beasley will be early favorites.

Yeah, I think this will be the tightest ROY race in many years…I think Oden, Mayo, and Beasley will stay close all the way to the end…however, I am with Hoffman on this that Oden will end up with it. He is a dedicated player that, barring injury, should be an immediate force on both sides of the ball. However, it may hurt him that Portland has so many weapons…compare that to OJ Mayo who only has to share the ball with Rudy Gay (or maybe Darrell Arthur, if he brings his A game…). Beasley has Wade and (for now) Marion.
Anyone else read up about Oden’s free throw shooting? Since it was the only basketball-related activity the team allowed him to practice while he was recovering from surgery, he would shoot thousands of free throws each day. Word is he wants to give Yao a run for the best FT shooting center in the league!! But that would be hard to do…
