Shaq got killed by Hakeem in the NBA finals.

I don’t set a lot of store by rings. Hakeem may have less than Shaq and Kareem, but Hakeem never played with anyone near the caliber of Magic or Kobe.

It’s hard to place Hakeem over Shaquille now that Shaq owns four rings. And it’s next to impossible to place the Dream over Jabbar because of his ring total and longevity of excellence.

But no center past or present can touch Hakeem’s 1994 season.

I’ve long held that Hakeem is the greatest center of the modern era and highly under-appreciated by the public as a whole. He wasn’t as consistently dominant offensively as Shaq or Kareem, but he was, IMO, the greatest defensive player of the modern era. There’s never been another center with his combination of length, explosiveness, and incredible quickness for a big guy.

Glad you enjoyed it. I’m of the opinion that no player has played at a higher level than Olajuwon in 1994. Hakeem was MVP, DPOY, and Finals MVP.

This series was my favorite Western conference finals of all-time, Olajuwon show us who was the real MVP.
