Down Goes The King

LeBron James lost two games of H-O-R-S-E to Cub Cadet’s Trick Shot Challenge champion David Kalb yesterday.

From the Associated Press via ESPN.com:

“James was on an outdoor court at Venice Beach to take on David Kalb in a shooting game, mostly of trick shots, although James’ outside shooting touch was way off. At one point, he grinned and said, “That wind.”

Kalb won the matchup with James in an online contest, “LeBron’s Trick Shot Challenge sponsored by Cub Cadet.”

Kalb’s bag of trick shots including one where he bounced the ball very high in the lane, raced around the goal post, caught the ball as it came down, and tossed it in the basket. James missed his try, and after losing the first game, declared best two-of-three. Each made, among other shots, left-handed free throws, but Kalb went on to win the second game as well.”

From the Orange County Register:

“Those who did gather around the court saw was James get clocked by the 26-year-old warehouse worker in a best-of-three H-O-R-S-E contest. Kalb had won a Cub Cadet-sponsored contest with his videos of making baskets on a hoop that was strapped to a fork lift and his shots were just as impressive without heavy equipment.

“Goes to show that all that horsing around shooting all those baskets can you something,” Kalb said, who in addition to playing alongside James got a $5,000 prize.

“I thought I could beat him. Let’s just say, I would have been disappointed if I hadn’t.”

James blamed many of his misses on the ocean breezes and bright sun.”
