Frank Dell’Apa of The Boston Globe penned an informative article about Tim Grover’s Attack Athletics facility today. Grover has trained a number of NBA players over the years, but is best known for his work with Michael Jordan. Dell’Apa’s article is a worthy read. Here are a few of the finer points:
- The facility measures 65,000 square feet and cost $16 million to build.
- There is a $1 million security system with gated parking, fingerprint identification, and 110 cameras.
- Attack focuses on pre-draft readiness, performance testing, longevity training, and injury rehabilitation.
- About 30 pro players pay about $50,000 annually for membership (30X$50,000=$1,500,000).
- Dwyane Wade trained with Grover to prepare for the Olympics.
- Darius Miles is a client.
- The facility holds four NBA sized basketball courts, seating for 1,000 people, a 10,000 square foot weight room, and four locker rooms.
- The facility also provides manicures, pedicures, haircuts, a dining room, and includes soundproof sleeping rooms.
- There is also a video game room, a 110-inch flat-screen television, and massage therapists on staff.

Basketball training has come a long way since Larry Bird used a diet of popcorn and 7-Up to lose 20 pounds prior to the 1987 playoffs.
