On January 21st, 1997, Michael Jordan scored 51 points against the New York Knicks after Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy claimed that Jordan befriended opponents to soften them up before battle. Infuriated, Jordan shot 18-of-30 from the field, 5-of-8 from the three-point line, and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line to lead the Bulls to a 88-87 win over the Knicks. Jordan capped off his performance with a 17-foot jumper over Allan Houston with 26.7 seconds remaining.
