I noticed this at LABallTalk yesterday, but apparently, it’s old news.
In new news, Bryant signed an endorsement deal with SINA Corporation, a “leading online media company and value-added information service provider in China.” Bryant and SINA Corp are hoping to build upon his popularity in China, which was evident during the Beijing Olympics, by launching a Chinese personal website.
Here’s some background on SINA from their corporate site:
With more than 280 million registered users worldwide and over 900 million daily page views, SINA is the most recognized Internet brand name in China and among Chinese communities globally.
In various surveys and polls, SINA has been recognized as the most valuable brand and the most popular website in China. SINA was awarded “The Most Respected Enterprise” for five consecutive years from 2003 and 2007 by the Economic Observer and the Management Case Study Center of Peking University. In the ‘Internet Guide 2007 China Internet Survey’ conducted by Internet Society of China, SINA was ranked number 1 in user reach in the fields of portal, blog, automobile, sports, news and finance. In 2007, SINA was awarded ‘Top Ten Innovative Media’ and ‘Internet Company of the Year’ by Peking University and MII, respectively.

280 million registered users. That’s incredible. I think Myspace has a little over 100 million users. I may be wrong…

I was on the site a few days ago and it was allowing me to post to the forum with my previous membership (the free one)… yesterday was the first day it didn’t allow me to even log in. I never even saw the fact that they would be raising the price prior to that. Interesting!

LABallTalk:
Are you going to buy the membership? I think it’s ridiculous to charge $50 for membership to an online fan club.
