Stern to Open the Books; Push for Revenue Sharing

From Jason Fleming of HOOPSWORLD:

NBA Commissioner David Stern is going to give the National Basketball Players’ Association all the financial figures they requested in discussions held a couple weeks ago. He wants everyone to see the numbers, and agrees with NBPA leader Billy Hunter that revenue sharing must improve.

“I have begun working … quite assiduously to assure that there is more revenue sharing,” Stern told Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal. “I am going to reach agreement with my owners.”

The NBA has revenue sharing, but it’s nothing as balanced as what other leagues – the NFL in particular – have. And it’s hard to argue that emulating what the NFL does business-wise could be a bad thing.

Right now the players get 57% of revenue, something the owners would like to see reduced to cut costs and improve profitability.
