Kevin Garnett: Unplugged

Garnett sat down with Celtics.com’s Peter Stringer to talk about the first time he picked up a basketball, his decision to bypass college for the pros, the pain of not being able to play in the postseason, and more. Asked to comment on his expectations for the Celtics’ season opener, Garnett says: “The energy in the garden is like no other. It’s like a surge through me. The energy in that building is like no other place I’ve ever been.” Stringer follows up with a question about what goes through Garnett’s mind, when he bangs his head against the basket stanchion and pounds his chest before the opening tip. KG continues: “From the minute I come in to the building, and I hear the fans, and I hear the chants, and we’re getting closer and closer to [tipoff]. I have to (takes a deep breath) … I’m trying to compose myself, because there’s a part of me that’s running with so much emotion and adrenaline, I’m trying to keep it under control so I don’t lose it. And some nights I lose it. Some nights I can’t even help it. I’m just on 10, and I’m ready and I’m happy. That’s gotta’ be the best feeling in the world, when you run out and hear that crowd. Night in and night out, you hear that. It’s a great feeling.”

UPDATE: Just watched this video for the second time. This is why I can’t help but admire Kevin Garnett. His passion for the game is infectious. Inspirational, even.
